Our mission
Homeward Hound is a small non-profit organisation helping dogs and cats in Romania and North Macedonia find suitable homes across England, Scotland and Wales.
Many of the animals we help have known life on the streets or in public shelters. With the right match, they get the chance to start again — somewhere safe, with people of their own.
How adoption works
Browse the dogs and cats currently looking for homes.
Complete Homeward Hound's adoption application and tell the team about your household, lifestyle and experience.
The team reviews the application and arranges a home check to make sure the match is suitable.
Once approved, the adoption fee and contract process can be completed.
For animals travelling from abroad, arrangements are made for their journey to England, Scotland and Wales — then their new family can help them settle and decompress.
Responsible rehoming
Homeward Hound carefully considers whether an animal and adopter are a suitable match — for the animal's sake, and yours.
The team considers the household, lifestyle and individual animal's needs.
Potential homes are assessed as part of the application process.
Known temperament, compatibility and medical information is shared with potential adopters.
Rescue dogs may need time to decompress and adjust to unfamiliar surroundings and routines.
Cats
Homeward Hound also helps cats looking for safe, loving homes. Cat profiles will appear here when available. In the meantime, visit our Cats page or follow the rescue on Facebook for updates.
